If you have not filed a medical it will result in your instructor not allowing you to dive on the day. \nYou will need Current BSAC membership. \nYou will also need to join the Capernwray dive centre. There is now a fee of £30 fee for a 2-year membership\, you will need to register online and choose the 2-year diving option\, beyond this Capernwray will charge £15.00 each time you visit\, this fee pays for parking\, and the use of facilities (W.C\, showers\, cafe facilities\, and use of the actual quarry). you can bring a packed lunch and drinks. Air fills are also available for £5.00 per fill. \nYou will need your regular SCUBA gear and if you do not own a DRY SUIT\, you will either need to purchase or borrow one or you can hire them from either Capernwray Dive Centre or Bolton Area Divers. SUMMARY:Practical Rescue Management SDC course
DESCRIPTION:We are putting on a “Practical Rescue Management” SDC course.\nThis is a great way to safely expose a group of divers to realistic diving incidents. Although the emphasis is on the development of rescue-management skills\, this course also provides an opportunity for further instruction and practice in personal rescue skills. \nThere is a strong emphasis on teamwork\, you will get to manage a small team in a hypothetical rescue scenario in a controlled open-water training environment. \nVenues: We will be holding the theory part of the course on Saturday 28th January at the Botanical Club in Atherton with the practical part on Sunday 29th at Holyhead marina. (Please note that the practical day is weather dependant) \nThis SDC is open to all members who have achieved Sports Diver Grade (or equivalent qualification from another training agency) \nBy completing this course you will also get  Dive Leader theory sessions DT9\, DT10\, and DT11 and practical session DO5 signed off \nDepending on the number of participants on the course we may need some help from Dive Leaders and/or Ocean divers to act as casualties on the Sunday. \nIf you wish to attend this course please email Chris Heywood   OR if you are willing to help on the Sunday please email Chris Heywood with the word HELPER  in your message. \nRequirements: Current Medical filed\, Current BSAC membership\, Current Branch Membership. \nCost: Branch boat fee £10.00 per person per day (excludes instructors / helpers) and a share of fuel.

DESCRIPTION:This event has been postponed to a later date\, due to a lack of available students                                      BSAC’s Boat Handling course is great fun and is ideal for anyone wanting to learn about rigid-hulled inflatable boats (RIBs) and how to drive them. \nIt’s a practical boat-based course that gives each student plenty of time at the helm of a small dive boat to practise their skills\, including how to drop and recover divers safely. Some boat insurers require any person driving a boat to have an approved boat-handling qualification. \nWho is the course for? \nThe Boat Handling course is open to anyone aged over 14 and it’s a great way to get non-divers involved in the club\, especially if they have family members who dive. No diving qualification is necessary to take part. \nThe skills you’ll learn. (Practical skills will be scheduled once the boat is back from refurb) \nYou will be out and about in boats on both days of this two-day course\, which includes a mix of four theory\, two dry practical and three open-water practical sessions aboard a RIB. You will learn about the responsibilities of owning\, towing and driving a boat\, and how to launch and recover it. \nWith a maximum of three students per instructor in sessions on the water\, you will learn how to drive the boat and will have plenty of hands-on time to practise a range of boat manoeuvres to improve your boat-handling skills and safely drop off and recover divers on a dive site. \nPractical skills include high-speed driving\, slow-speed manoeuvring\, anchoring and coming alongside. You will develop your overall seamanship skills\, including voyage planning\, essential rules of the road and learn the actions to take in an emergency. \nWhat You’ll be able to do. \nA Boat Handler is defined as someone who is: \n\nAware of their responsibilities.\nAble to voyage plan considering weather\, tides and local area.\nAble to prepare\, launch and recover a small boat.\nCompetent to drive a boat safely while conducting diving operations.\nAble to safely drop and recover divers at a dive site.\n\n  \nPlease note – The branch has a requirement of Min 8 hours boat handling (signed off by OWI / Boat handler)\nAnd numerous demonstrations of safe practice launch and recovery. \nPlease purchase the Boat handling pack from BSAC at a cost of £52.00 \nyou must share your URN with Mike Rickard (Diving officer) \nThere will be additional costs associated with the practical element of this course.

DESCRIPTION:BSAC’s Chartwork and Position Fixing course is a hands-on course designed for anyone wanting to learn and practise the navigation skills needed to plan more adventurous diving and put diving projects with a purpose into action within a club or centre. \nWho is this course for? \nThe Chartwork and Position Fixing course is open to anyone and it’s a great way to get non-divers involved in the club\, especially if they have family members who dive\, as the course covers dive-trip planning and practical surface-navigation skills. No diving qualification is necessary to take part. \nThe skills you will learn. \nThis two-day course includes a day afloat to consolidate your practical navigation skills following a day of theory sessions\, dry practical sessions\, and planning. \nYou will develop your overall knowledge of planning for more exciting exploratory diving\, including: \n\nlearning about what nautical charts can tell you\nworking out the tides\nhow to fix your position at sea\nhow to locate dive sites\nhow to plan and carry out a voyage\n\nWhat you’ll be able to do. \nAt the end of the Chartwork and Position Fixing course you will be able to find enough useful information about potential dive sites from nautical charts and other resources to get involved in planning diving to sites that your club may not regularly visit\, and will have the practical skills to carry out your voyage plans. \n  \nAfter completing the Chartwork and Position Fixing course you will have the skills and confidence to help organise more adventurous diving for your club. \n  \nIf you want to attend this SDC – You must purchase a Chartwork and positioning back from BSAC £35.50\nyou must also share your URN (Unique Reference number with Mike Rickard (Diving officer.) \n
