Oban

Last October a group of us made the trip up to Oban for a long weekend and some excellent diving.  The weather could not have been nicer with everyone in T shirts and shorts in between dives and the sea was flat calm – brill!  We stayed at Puffin Divers in their excellent self catering accommodation at Port Gallanach.

The diving was from the club rib (Sub "C" One) and the Black Pig.  The first dive was The Breda, a well known wreck in Armucknish Bay.  About half an hour by rib the route takes us past Oban centre, out around Ganavan sands and on to the wreck lying just off Benderlock.

The actual dive wasn't the best, the viz was very poor which was a shame as for some of the guys it was their first proper wreck dive and I know it can be fantastic.  Never mind we can always go do it again.  We had arranged to have dinner on the beach at Ganavan Sands so most made butties and took drinks, what we didn't know was Lorna & Taff had ordered butties from the cafe! Oops ! Lots of Butties.

The second dive is a site called Eilean Mhoe, a scenic dive with a slight drift.  This is one of my favorite dives, stuffed with life, not deep, never fails to impress.  I think everyone came up with a big cheesy grin on their face. The ride back to Puffin was brill – if you have been here you will know what I mean, good dives, good weather, good people, and fantastic scenery.

Other dives we had planed were Hispania, probably one of the best dives in the sound, Thesis another stunning wreck – very accessible, lots of safe swim throughs – and the Rondo.  This wreck lies up a cliff face from 6mtrs to 52 mtrs – choose your depth – plus some relaxed scenic diving just to chill out.

It wouldn't be right of me not to thank all the people who helped to put this trip together, the unsung heros who work in the background and make these trips reality. BIG THANKS to them.
